聚碳酸酯（PC）是可燃的，在火中燃烧时，火焰呈淡黄色，冒黑烟；但氧指数仅25%，离开火源后立即自动熄灭。若在基体树脂中加入了某些阻燃性物质如卤化物，三氧化二锑，氢氧化镁，磷酸酯和红磷等，便可提高其阻燃性。若用四溴双酚A代替普通双酚A制成含卤素的聚碳酸酯，那么其耐燃性就会被大大提高，即使在火源中也不会燃烧。纯聚碳酸酯（PC）树脂是一种无定形，无味，无自，无毒，透明的热塑性聚合物，相对分子质量一般在2000~7000范围内，相对密度1.18~1.20，玻璃他转变温度140~150℃，熔程220~230℃。
